Privacy Policy
Effective September 23, 2026
Gecko is a sticker board for the things you want to remember to buy. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your stickers and photos stay on your phone, and there are no accounts, ads or analytics.
Information stored on your device
Stickers, the photos you take or pick, item names, notes, reminders and your settings are saved only in the app's private storage on your phone. There is no server that receives them, and Android cloud backup is turned off for Gecko. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes everything.
Camera and photos
Gecko uses the camera only when you choose to take a picture for a sticker, and reads a photo from your gallery only when you pick one. Cutting the subject out of a photo happens on your device using Google ML Kit, or a built-in model on phones without Google Play services. Your photos are not uploaded.
Product and image search
If you search for a product picture, the words you type are sent to the service you are searching:
- Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org) receives your search words and returns product pictures. See the Open Food Facts privacy policy.
- Google Images opens inside the app when you choose it. Google receives your search and handles it under the Google privacy policy.
These searches are not received or kept by Gecko. Nothing is searched unless you start a search.
Custom pop sounds
Gecko can use a sound from myinstants.com, through its open API. When you open that picker, the words you type are sent so it can search, along with your phone's country code for the Trending and Best lists. The one sound you choose is downloaded into the app's own storage on your phone. Nothing else is sent, and the five built-in pops need no connection at all.
Google Play services
Google ML Kit, which runs on your device, may send Google basic diagnostic information such as device model, app version and performance metrics so Google can maintain the feature. It does not include your photos.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. Gecko asks for notification permission only to show them.
This website
gecko.riecodes.com is a plain website with no advertising and no tracking scripts. Its two sign-up forms, both now closed, kept what you typed in Google Firebase:
- The launch list kept the email address you left there, to tell you once that Gecko is out.
- The beta tester form kept your Gmail address, the phone and Android version you named, and your one-line answer. The Gmail address is what Google Play invited you with. These are used only to run the test and are deleted once it ends.
Both lists are private and readable only by the developer. Ask at the address below and your entry is removed.
The short film on the home page is hosted on YouTube and only loads when you press play.
Test builds
A build lent to testers stops working on a date built into it, and checks that it was installed by Google Play. Both checks happen on your phone and send nothing anywhere. Nothing is deleted from your phone when a test build expires.
What Gecko does not do
- No account or sign-in.
- No advertising and no ad identifiers.
- No analytics, tracking or crash reporting of its own.
- No selling or sharing of personal information.
Children
Gecko is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted on this page with a new effective date.
